Nice 'n' freaky ambient

This is really good, i like the spacy feel provided by the reversed (what is that, guitar?), though some parts of the track got a little too rough, at least for my ambient preferences ^_^

The "dribbling" effects sounds very nice, a nice additional could be a long dub-like delay once in a while. I was thrilled when the weird choir came in, they sound great hidden in the background as you did.

For ambient music, i'd suggest a little more reverb to smoothen things out, and drop that 4*4 kick, if you must involve a kick, i'd suggest something a little more innovative (try listening to some IDM, like Aphex Twin and you'll see what i mean).

At last, another thing you could improve is the end, it dosn't seem very natural- or loyal to the track to end it all so sudden, a fadeout or maybe some reverse-instrument solo with some weird effects and then slowly cut it all off with a low-pass filter.

That is all,

T7

I like!

Great composition, i must admit i was expecting a low quality club-wannabe techno-track, but i was surprised to find this great piece in here!

It's not techno, rather some mixture between ambient and glitch, as we've seen popular aphex twin and our own NG Kingbastard do it.

I like the cathedral mood the choir-like sounds create as well as the bit-crushed drum in the background. Try doing a few more variations, especially on the drum, if you want better diversity and a more IDM-like feel.

Overall great loop, don't let the 8 get you down, i just try to vote a little more fairly than a lot of people do, voting 9 and 10 on almost every track they review. The bad tracks, in their opinion gets an 7 or 8, instead of the more deserved 5 or 6, if i was to decide.

Well anyway, enough chit-chat.

Good luck with the music, you've got great potential! Looking forward to hearing more :)

Thanks man. I appreciate it.

Great

Like alot of other people have told you, this track is great, and very well mixed/mastered, most elements seems smooth and well seperated around the mix, except for the low end.

You see, to me the bass seems a bit too loud and the reverb on all elements with bass makes a lot of rumbling sounds in the bottom of your mix. This can be fixed 2 ways; either turn down or remove some of the most bassy reverbs (bass aren't supposed to have very much reverb, and it's gotta be short) or give the finished track some EQ, turn down by max. 5-7 dB at 2-300 hertz. This is what i call the "muddyness area".

Beside that, some times of the track felt a bit overcrowded to me, a bit too much happenin' at the same time, but that's just my tastes ^_^

Otherwise, great track, keep up the good work.

A sincere 5/5 and 9/10 from me,

nightvision responds:

It sounds like I'm not mastering it with appropriate headphones, because its sounds great on mine and all other music seems to sound tinney.

Maybe its time for some new mastering headphones.

Nice

Great track indeed, i like :D

I quite like the end, with the tape sound and a little metallic "ding"!

A few improvement points:

- Some sounds were a bit too metallic for my tastes and some samples such as the snare felt a bit low-quality like.

- Sometimes the mix got a little "overcrowded".

Otherwise, sweet track, plenty of variation and cool breaks B)

itsameyayo responds:

Yeah, I need drum samples, I figure that dilemma out!

GRRRRR

GRRRRRR....GRAAARH! I wrote you this fine long review and F*CKING Newgrounds don't work very well in Firefox so it screwed it all up when i was about to submit it. I thought i had copied the text to my clipboard but all i had was this:

This sucks!

Oh well, nice track, i hope you can do with my angry review.

G9 responds:

I got scared initially scanning this that you thought the track sucked.

...

Well, it kind of does, but no matter. :P

Thanks man!

Neat!

Lemme say, this track is pretty damn neat!

The glitchy vocal laying on top of a electrified beat(snaps and all:P) sounds so f*cking cool!

The rest of the track was, to me, a bit minimalistic...get more elements into the song!

Overall cool track:)

phoozle responds:

Thank you.

Very neat

When i heard this, i felt pretty nice, you have talents within composing but i though your choices in sounds were a bit weak, sounds a bit like sampled GM(General Midi, this isn't a compliment!).

You need more "air" in your track, try using another sound for the piano, one with plenty of reverb and release times, this will make it more "whooshy" and floating.

The voice is pretty good, but far from perfect, sorry. You're good at singing, but you need the right tools to make it sound good also:

1. A good mic(you have this)
2. An autotuner(Gsnap is a free autotuner and Antares autotune is clearly the best commercial autotuner.)
3. In some cases a good sounding chorus.
4. A reverb(you have this too)

To me, this vocal needs step 2 and 3. To add more air to your vocal, boost some of the high frequencies(5-10.000 hertz) by 3-5 db...

Don't think that i think this track is bad, as it's not at all, i'm just trying to give you some useful feedback and improvement points, like i would have wanted from a review on my own audio.

If you have time, why not stop by and leave me a review?

T7

Jonnycakes responds:

Thank you for the extensive review!! there was no general MIDI involved. The instruments were wet samples from Garritan Personal orchetra. The problem is that I'm at school abroad so I dont have all my gear...including a sustain pedal, which is what's really needed to get the piano more flowing.

I appreciate your advice on the frequencies though, I'll apply that next time, see how it sounds, and I'll look into the autotuners. Thanks again! :)

Decent

Hey man pretty neat solo, what did you use to make that distortion?!? That's crazy! I have a digital amp myself but i've never managed to create anything as rough as the sounds you're using here.

There's not much to say about this track, it's a guitar solo, though i thought you could've used a less distorted sound for your guitar, it sounded good when played in the high bands but when you go low it seems too noisy and stuff...

You obviously have talents for playing guitar, now what you need is the rest of the music;)

T7

Quoteman responds:

Hey, thx for the review!, Back when I did this all I did was use a bunch of pedals (crybaby and TS-9DX) and send them through an amp (MG30DFX) then into the CPU, it came out rather primitive. With Cakewalk/Music Creator pro 2 and Audacity I can master the sounds better as heard in both "All I ever wanted"s and Both "Hey Joe"s.

Excellent!

Wow, what a great and harmonic track, i can't believe i've neverd heard of you before! The piano sounds great, did you use samples for it? In that case, which ones?!? Sounds like Ivory or something...

The background strings sounds perfect, smooth and chilled.

The flute is cool, although you could work a bit on the realism on this one, maybe add some (more) reverb or use other samples...

What i like the most about this piece is the composition, the complex piano built on the simple string chords, the flute walking up and down the chords and generating great harmonic sounds.

What program did you use to compose this? Reason?

Man, if i had a dime for every time i heard someone (without record label) compose this well...i'd have a dime!

Feel free to check out my tracks as well, i'd appreciate it.

Regards,

T7

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Of course good sir... I'd love to check out a few of your tracks. lol if I had a dime for everytime someone asked me "What I use" to make my music... I'd have quite a few. My answer is always the same. I use a keyboard... nothing more nothing less... just a Yamaha DGX personal home keyboard. I just make the most of it. :)... Thankyou so much for the long review and your attention and flattery... I look forward to viewing your work.

Niiice

This is a very cool song, though its pretty average compared to your other outstanding pieces. I like the beepy thing and the flanging ultra-fast snare rolls. A thing to consider is lowering volume OR eq some of the lower frequencis because on my PA's the bass is coming out very loud and disturbing in the rest of the music. Also, its a bit "generic", maybe abit more variation, more elements, all those tiny little synths in the background ect. i hear in your music often. I dunno. Overall very cool song.

Regards,
T7

Rucklo responds:

yo
The subbass is on the limit, and is supposed to be so. Perhaps it could be lowered just a liiiitle bit (or the other parts a lil bit higher :)
The high section of the eq is too still a little bit too high, even though i lowered it noticable.
Well, as for generic, it IS quite monotone in the melodie. But this song is about the subbass+beat. Lots of weird things happen in the beat, some i know i should have brought out more, but well well....
Ill try find them lil synths til the next song ;)
thnx alot for reviewing mate!
